Types of Leaves for Government Employees:- Section 12(1)(e) of the 7th Central Pay Commission award says “The leaves of every employee having taxable tenure of employment shall be determined by the central government from time to time according to the existing provisions.” Keeping in view various government employees’ grievances, the Central Government has started making changes in the provisions.
In the 7th Pay Commission report, Section 12(1)(e) had said that every central government employee will get ‘leave without pay for an extended period of 14 days for injury or illness arising out of employment.
However, in another change, there has been an extended period of five days to be covered under ‘leave without pay. This is applicable for those employees who have been exempted from leaves with effect from January 1, 2017.
Leaves for Central Government Employees
Central government employees get a holiday every 4-6 working days. A typical duty day is usually, six days a week. So, for every 4-6 working days, they are entitled to get three days to leave. You can avail of the following types of leave: vacation leave sick leave holidays exceptional leaves.
You can also avail of the above-mentioned seven types of leaves for Government Employees for every annual leave like 26th January, March, August, December, September, October, January and April.
Furthermore, the above seven types of leaves for Government Employees are different from the above-mentioned types of leaves given to the IAS and IPS officers by the Government of India. The 7th Pay Commission recommendations on leave for central government employees and officers.

End of Service Gratuity
Central Government employees and employees working under the Government of India can enjoy the benefits of the 7th Pay Commission including end of service gratuity.
Multiple types of leaves can be availed by central government employees and officers to avail the benefits of the 7th Pay Commission and end of service gratuity as mentioned below: Government Holidays The vacation leaves given to all central government employees and employees of various autonomous bodies under the Central Government.
Holidays given include Vacation leave and Sick leave with pay, Annual leave, Annual Training, (at the instance of the employee), School Leaving Certificate (ASC), General leave and Furlough. Government employees and employees can take these leaves.
In the case of any medical requirement (physical, mental, emotional or psychological) a worker can apply for sick leave. Sick leave is calculated as paid time off work as a percentage of total pay for a specified period.
Any leave that is lost to sickness causes labour injury, or that cannot be utilized as it falls within a fixed time period automatically is considered to be sick leave. Exemptions on All types of leaves Medical Vacation for rehabilitation or in connection with or following a medical examination or any related treatment.
Medical Leaves Medical leaves or frequent sick leaves are taken due to an illness or for minor accidents or ailments.
In India, the employees must be allowed some personal leave to attend to personal family and social issues. For example, doctors who regularly face home visits from parents and are on call all the time, often need to take paid leave to spend time with their families.
Some of the important documents needed to apply for Personal leave include a certificate from your previous employer. Administrative leave is granted for regular and extraordinary situations.
For example, your boss decides that you are to go to attend a workshop or to attend a relative’s marriage. Administrative leave is unpaid but if the leave is approved, the employee can continue to work from home until the leave is over.
Leave on Account of Marriage
The leave provided for a government servant for taking up a marriageable marriage is allowed either in February or March after a good show of performance or after the completion of 10 years of cumulative service. The leave shall not be availed after superannuation after attaining the age of 50 years.
However, a Government servant who is on sick leave may be granted a grant of leave for a period not exceeding 180 days in each financial year to attend to any family emergency. On receipt of a valid application from any government servant, the Government may permit a grant of extension of leave.

Leave on Account of Death in the Family
Extension of leave on account of disability It was only in January 2016 that the Ministry of Human Resources and the Ministry of Finance (I-T) issued a circular saying that the leave period should not exceed ten days in a month and could be carried over to the next month.
Earlier, they required no advance notice to avail of leave on account of death in the family and extension of leave on account of disability.
Special Leave for Women Employees

The Department of Personnel and Training has been investigating the various holidays and leaves that Central Government employees should avail with the assumption that these holidays and leaves are adequate to satisfy the requirement of employees and officers.
The recommendations are based on the suggestions of a committee constituted by the DoPT to analyse the matter. This Committee was formed by DoPT in January 2016 to examine the various aspects of the provision of leaves of Central Government employees.
It submitted its report to the DoPT in October 2016 and subsequently, the Department of Personnel and Training gave some more recommendations in the matter.
