Here we have tried to explain to you what is the meaning of different groups in types of government jobs and their pay scale. The Indian central government or the Indian state government divides public employees into different group rankings and further, these groups are divided into different levels.

  • Group – D and C : 7th CPC Pay Levels 1 – 5
  • Group – B : 7th CPC Pay Level  6-9 (Non-Gazetted)
  • Group – A : 7th CPC Pay Level 10 – 12 (Gazetted)
  • Group – A : 7th CPC Pay Levels 13  -14 (Senior Level)
  • HAG : 7th CPC Pay Levels 15-18

Group – D  Employees

It is down to government job workers in India. Previously in the 6th Pay Commission pay scale, these groups of employees were in the pay band of Rs. 5200-20200 Grade Pay Rs. 1800. Driver, Peon, sweeper, gardener, guard, barber, cook, etc.

Group – C Employee

It is the largest government employee at the grassroots level. Most are assistant and non-supervisory jobs. These public sector employees can be promoted to higher levels. , Staff Selection Commission (SSC) recruits for Group-C government jobs.

Persons holding these positions do not hold any important administrative positions. These candidates are normally selected in recruitment examinations for Central Government Vacancies through SSC (Staff Selection Commission).

In the 6th Pay Commission, Government employees of these groups in Grade Pay of Rs 5200 to Rs 20200. 1800 to Rs. 2800. The 7th Pay Commission merged Group C and D so that they could fall into the same pay band and put them in pay level 1. 5. Now the basic salary of Group-C employees starts from Rs 18000 to Rs 29200.

Most of the government employees in this category are liars. Clerk, Multi Tasking Staff, Stenographer, Assistant, Typist, Telephone Operator, Primary Teacher, Constable, Constable, Assistant Sub-Inspector, Technician, Mechanic, Attendant, Lineman, Driver, Electrician, Supervisor, Cashier, Store Keeper, Chemist, Sanitary Inspector, Etc. The group has some major government jobs.

Group – B Employees

This is the largest type of govt job. Typically, Group-B government employees are non-gazetted, but some jobs are also gazetted.

The basic difference between gazetted and non-gazetted employees of the government is that the former can authorize the issuance of official government tickets, while the latter cannot. Gazetted officers have a greater administrative role.

Staff Selection Commission (SSC) takes a recruitment test for the recruitment of vacant posts for these groups. However, for some posts, the UPSC and the state also recruit the PSC.

Some of the Group B posts are gazetted in nature. The authority of Group – B Gazetted Officer is the same as that of Group A officer. To start one’s career as a Group-B Gazetted Officer, one has to take the UPSC exam, but most of these seats are filled through promotion.

The officers of this group are appointed by the department heads of any government organization. For example JCO (Junior Commissioned Officer) in the Indian Armed Forces and SCS (State Civil Service), for certain posts under Group-B.

In the 6th Pay Commission, most of the government employees of Group B were in the pay band of Rs. 9300 to 34800 with grade pay of Rs. 4200 to Rs. 5400 / -. The 7th Pay Commission has kept him at a salary level of 6 – 9. The basic salary of Group-B government employees is between Rs. 34500 to 53100 Rs.

Group – A Employees (Officer)

Group-A is an officer grade in government jobs. Group – A has been given the highest position in terms of appointment and authority. The group has employed job-seeking officers and has held various managerial positions in governments, which is one of the most available jobs.

Commission for scientists in organizations like Indian Air Force / Navy / Army (Indian Armed Forces), AIS officers (All India Services), Engineers, Bureaucrats, DRDO, ISRO, CSIR, BARC and Central India Civil Service (IAS, IRS, IPS) Officer. (IFS, IRS, IRTS)

In the 6th Pay Commission, most of the government employees of Group-A were in the pay band of Rs. 15600-39100 Grade Pay Rs.400 to Rs. Also in the pay band of Rs 7600. 37400-67000 Grade Pay Rs. 8700 to Rs. 10000. Now the 7th Pay Commission has raised the salary level to 10-14 for all Group-A officers.

All government officials recruited by Public Service Commissions in India start their career at the salary level of 10 and then get promoted at various levels up to HAG levels when promoted. For the posts of Scientists and Faculty vacancies, the recruitment is also for the salary level from 10-13.
